The Greenville Fire Department welcomed a new fire truck called Tower One Thursday. It is the only truck of its kind in eastern North Carolina.
The 4 person bucket at the end of the 100-feet-high ladder is expected to allow fire fighters to fight structure fires more efficiently. Community members got to participate in the traditions of celebrating a new fire truck. Kids washed the tires and helped push the truck into the station for the first time.
"All the members of our community and our employees work together and we literally push the truck into the station. It's a nod to the past. We have a very rich history and tradition," said battalion fire chief Shannon Terry.
Donations were also accepted to get a picture with the truck. That money was given to the Red Cross. Firefighters say the new fire truck is expected to help them serve the community until 2030.
