There was a noticeable increase in police presence this morning around schools in Pitt County.
Greenville police and Pitt County deputies were patrolling near schools as students returned to class for the first time since the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.
At Wahl-Coates Elementary School on East 5th Street in Greenville, many parents were seen walking their young children to the school, while not far away sat a Greenville police cruiser.
Police said the increased patrols were being done as a reassurance measure for parents, teachers and students, and not because of any threat.
