Greenville Police say a man attempted to make some fast cash by trying to rob a sweepstakes cafe with a weapon they say he didn't have.
Officials say that Derwin Harrell walked into the sweepstakes internet cafe at 2462 Stantonsburg Road around 4:30 a.m. and demanded money. Staff told police that Harrell implied that he had a weapon hidden on him. Officials say that Harrell ran from the store when staff refused to give him cash.
Police say that officers were in the area and saw Harrell running from the store. Officials say they had stopped and detained Harrell when they were approached by store management and told their store had been nearly robbed.
Officers say that no weapon was found on Harrell.
Harrell has been charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and is being held in the Pitt County Detention Center on a $150,000 bond.
