Greenville Mayoral Candidates Lay Out Vision

Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas says economic growth is his focus for the city as he seeks his second term against newcomer Thomas Best.

Allen Thomas says in the past two years, they've seen new partnerships, businesses and opportunities.

He says, "There is no denying this community is moving forward in the right direction and going to back to passive approaches is not the way to keep this going. We basically have the same election we had two years ago, except we see progress to prove we're on the right track."

His challenger, Tom Best, says his vision for the city also includes economic development, but also open government.

He believes the current council is too heavily involved in micro-managing city employees. Best says his goal is to work with everyone instead of come into office with his own agenda. He says, "Some people complain and say I don't have an agenda. Well I don't, but once I'm elected, the city council whoever is elected, we don't know yet who is on the team, we will come together as we have every time and have a planning session with the city staff, where those goals of the next two years will be set and developed by the elected officials."
