Greenville Center To Offer NC's Only Inpatient Opioid Addiction Treatment

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina will soon offer comprehensive inpatient services for opioid addiction.

The state Department of Health and Human Services announced Friday that the Walter B. Jones Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center in Greenville has been certified by the federal government to become the state's only inpatient center. It will also be one of 75 nationwide offering full services for opiate addiction.

The program will serve high-risk patients with intake, detoxification and treatment in a hospital setting.

The department says prescription drug abuse in North Carolina claims more than 1,000 lives annually from accidental drug overdose. The program will also support 45 public and private outpatient treatment centers.

The center also offers services to new mothers, who can bring children less than 1 year old into treatment with them.
