Greenville Attorney Arrested Inside Pitt County Courthouse

An attorney, who was arrested in July for intimidating a witness, found himself back in jail Friday afternoon.

David Sutton of Greenville was charged by Pitt County deputies with resisting a public officer after he tried to enter the courthouse.

An arrest warrant says Sutton refused to stop, "pulling away from Deputy Bridges, refusing to allow himself to be handcuffed." It says Bridges was working a courthouse security checkpoint at the time.

Sutton was arrested and later indicted this summer on the intimidation charge. Part of his bond included modified access to certain secure parts of the courthouse, which is given to local attorneys.

But Sutton's bond was later modified by another judge, which resulted in some confusion today as to what the attorney could and couldn't do. Judge Rusty Duke said those original conditions would be reinstated until Monday, when Sutton can go before the first judge and ask for clarification.

Sutton was freed after posting a $1,000 bond.
