Governor Pat McCrory's education advisor Eric Guckian paid a visit to several schools in the east to get a first hand look at things that are working.
Guckian and his staff as well as new Pitt County Schools Superintendent Dr. Ethan Lenker sat in on a first grade reading class Wednesday morning at W.H. Robinson Elementary in Winterville. The group also visited Creekside Elementary and South Central High School.
The group was there to see first hand some of the initiatives Pitt County Schools put in place to improve education, but as Guckian explains education is not all about programs.
"I've seen a real high level of leadership and engagement among the students. I think the students have been fantastic and engaged. It's people that drive these schools, not programs, and I've seen that through and through today. "
Guckian also visited East Carolina University Wednesday.
