Governor Pat McCrory has declared a state of emergency for North Carolina because of the winter storm.
McCrory this morning signed two executive orders this morning. One is for the state of emergency and the other would waive certain requirements for vehicles assisting in relief efforts.
The emergency declaration enables the governor to mobilize the resources to respond to the storm. It also is the first step in seeking federal funds to help defray the cost of providing emergency services, clearing debris and repairing any damaged public infrastructure.
McCrory also said the National Guard has repositioned 35 guardsmen with Humvees to help local emergency managers respond to the storm.
Attorney General Roy Cooper says with the state of emergency also enacts the state's price gouging law.
Cooper says consumers can report suspected price gouging to them at 1-877-5-NO-SCAM.
