A former Boy Scout leader in the east has been sentenced to prison for child exploitation charges.
Melvin Wetzel, 64, of Greenville was sentenced to five to six months in prison, according to officials at the Pitt County Detention Center. The charges Wetzel was sentenced on Tuesday are two counts of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor. When Wetzel was arrested in February, he faced ten counts.
Wetzel's 18-year-old son Andrew was arrested along with his father. Court record show the D.H. Conley student was sentenced last month to 18 months on probation and community service.
Lawmen said both Wetzels downloaded images of minors involved in sexual activity.
64-year-old Melvin Wetzel is now scheduled to appear in Pitt County court on July 26th. He faces 10 counts of Sexual Exploitation and was released after posting a $100,000 bond back in February.
His 17-Year-old son, Andrew, is also facing similar charges and will also appear alongside his father July 26th.
According to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office the two downloaded images of minors involved in sexual activity.
