The former manager of a middle school cafeteria is in jail, accused of pocketing thousands of dollars in school money.
On Thursday, Winterville Police arrested Latonya Ross on two counts of embezzlement from the Pitt County Board of Education.
Ross is accused of taking more than $38,666 starting in June 2012. Police say the embezzlement continued until January 31st.
The school system says she was Child Nutrition Manager at the middle school and that she resigned January 15th.
The 40-year-old woman is being held on a $20,000 bond and has her first appearance Friday morning.
