A former police detective is accused of stealing thousand of dollars in cash from two Greenville men.

On Monday a Pitt County grand jury indicted Rose Edmonds on two counts of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and two counts of obtaining property by false pretense.

The 20-year police veteran was fired in February for falsifying a departmental record, lying and gross negligence.

The indictment says on October 24th the former narcotics detective used her official capacity as a police officer to gain access to the apartments of two men and steal cash.

In one count, Edmonds is accused of seizing approximately $6,600 in cash from Stephen Krieski on Exchange Drive for her own personal use. The second count says the detective obtained approximately $2500 from Zachary Hickman who lived at Copper Beach.

Court records show Krieski has several pending drug charges in Pitt and Wake counties, while no charges have been found for Hickman.

Edmonds showed up first thing this morning at the Pitt County Courthouse for today's appearance. A judge told her she if convicted, she faces between 12-1/2 and 14-1/2 years in prison.

Her next court date is June 6th.

A former Greenville police officer, fired back in February, was indicted today by a Pitt County grand jury.

The grand jury indicted former detective Rose Edmonds on two counts of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and two counts of obtaining property by false pretense.

There is no immediate explanation about the circumstances surrounding the charges as the Clerk of Courts Office is closed for the day.

Edmonds, a 20-year veteran of the police department, was fired in February. The S.B.I. says it began investigating the narcotics officer back in December at the request of the district attorney.

In her dismissal letter, Chief Hassan Aden said the officer was fired for falsifying a departmental record, lying and gross negligence.
