Flu Cases Confirmed In ENC, Doctor: Young Children Need Vaccine

The flu can lead to death in some of our healthiest and youngest children, and according to doctors a simple vaccine seems to work effectively at preventing it. Children as young as 6 months old can get the flu shot.

Dr. Caroline Morgan of Pirate Pediatrics in Greenville say she's confirmed cases of the flu in some of her smallest patients. She says she dealt with her first case of the flu in September and 2 just last week. Morgan says the flu vaccine seems to be effective in preventing the spread of the flu and encourages parents to make sure children as young as six months get the shot.

There are studies that show even healthy kids could die if they're infected with the flu. According to the state Department of Health and Human Services website, as of the 19th of October it had 2 confirmed cases of the flu in the state in Chowan County and Forsyth County.
According to Pitt County, it has not received word yet of any flu cases since it's reported directly to the state if there's an outbreak.
