If you thought you were hot Saturday, just imagine being outside in full firefighting gear.
The Eastern Pines Fire Department, the Greenville Fire Academy and Pitt Community College hosted a controlled training burn just outside Greenville off Highway 43.
The purpose of the controlled burn was to train firefighters in a live structure fire situation. But with temperatures in the upper 90s it was no easy task.
Instructor Jonathan Jones says preventing heat related injuries and illnesses is all part of the training. "We take every necessary precaution we can to make sure that everybody's staying hydrated that if you're getting to hot we're bringing you out keeping you cool making sure that those type of injuries don't happen."
The Eastern Pines Fire Department hosts controlled burns throughout the year to educate students on the safest way to fight structure fires.
