Volunteer firefighters battling a house fire this afternoon in Pitt County.
No one was home when the fire at 3986 Roundtree Road was reported around 12:45 p.m. It was brought under control about an hour later.
Units from Winterville Community, Bel Arthur, Ayden and Red Oak responded.
It appears the fire broke out in the home's attic and damage was mostly contain to that area of the house thanks to the large number of volunteers who were able to save most of the belongs by covering them with tarps.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
