The Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened late Sunday night on JC Galloway Rd. in Pitt County.
Troopers say the one-vehicle crash was reported at 11:12 p.m. on JC Galloway Rd. near Boyd Galloway Rd. That's just east of Greenville.
The person killed was 20-year-old Patrick Ham of Grimesland.
Troopers say Ham was driving his Jeep Cherokee at a high rate of speed on Boyd Galloway Rd. and ran the stop sign at the T-intersection with JC Galloway Rd. He then crashed into a tree in the front yard of a home there. The Jeep flipped and caught on fire. Ham was killed on impact, troopers say.
The accident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
Simpson Fire Department, Eastern Pines EMS, Grimesland Fire Department, the Pitt County Sheriff's Office and the Highway Patrol all responded.
