UPDATE: Man Struck And Killed Retrieving Trash Can That Fell From Pickup Truck

More Video...

The Highway Patrol have identified a man killed Saturday morning after they say he was hit by a vehicle when he was retrieving a trash can that fell from his truck.

Sgt. Gary Weaver with the Highway Patrol says that it happened around 5:50 Saturday morning. We’re told that 51-year-old Kenan Fleming of Greenville was driving southwest on J.C. Galloway Road near Mobleys Bridge Road in Pitt County when he lost a trash can from his truck. Officials say Fleming turned around, crossed the center line, stopped in the southwest oncoming traffic lane and got out to get the trash can. Sgt. Weaver says that a 16-year-old was driving southwest on J.C. Galloway Road when he came upon Flemings vehicle, slowed to around 25 mph and pulled right toward the ditch to avoid the truck. When he did so, troopers say the driver struck Fleming with his vehicle.

Sgt. Weaver says that no charges will be filed.

Sgt. Weaver says the sun was not completely up and that Fleming’s lights were on on his truck when the teen came upon it.
