Many people attending for a Patriot Day ceremony in Farmville were not even born at the time of the 9-11 attacks.
Sixth grade Farmville Middle School teacher Kayla Delaney was in New York September 11th, 2001 and lost a very close family friend in the attack. She shared her story with her students Wednesday during a remembrance ceremony.
"I told them exactly what I went through what I was feeling what was going on around me, and just to hear it from somebody that was there, I think that it hits home with them give them that connection, that real world," said Delaney.
Farmville Middle School students and staff dressed in red, white, and blue and gathered outside for a special flag raising ceremony Wednesday morning.
After the flag raising, Farmville EMS, police, and fire departments were recognized with certificates of appreciation.
