ONE WEEK LATER: Family Of Greenville Shooting Victim Offers Thanks

The niece of the man shot in the parking lot of the Kellum Law Firm last Friday tells WITN her uncle has severe facial trauma to the jaw area, and was also shot in the left shoulder.

Tim Edwards family says Edwards hasn't spoken since the shooting took place and is still in intensive care.

Edwards niece spoke with us Thursday afternoon, choosing not to go on camera or have her name released.

She released this statement from the family: "The family of Tim Edwards would like to express our sincere gratitude to the emergency responders, the police officers, and the wonderful care that Vidant Health Center has provided. It is partially due to all of these caregivers that our loved one is alive today."

The family also thanked Edwards' church, the First Pentecostal Holiness Church, and they encourage everyone to pray for the other victims as well as the shooter.

Edwards' niece says one of the victims, Haywood Whichard Jr., is no longer in the hospital, but the other two, Carroll Oakes and Vernon Leggett, are all on the same floor, right next to Edwards. She says the three families have bonded and drawn strength from each other during this difficult time.

The family says Edwards will have a long and difficult road of recovery, but his faith will carry him through it.

On Monday, Norman Kellum of Kellum Law Firm announced he started a relief fund for the victims named "Greenville Strong." The fund will go towards the victims' medical costs and rehabilitation expenses.

If you would like to donate you can send checks to the Greenville Strong Fund at the CarolinaEast Foundation, PO Box 1576, New Bern, NC 28563.
