Two former employees of a closed car dealership and another man have been charged in an embezzlement and insurance fraud scheme.
Greenville police arrested 45-year-old Deborah Shiles, 54-year-old John Jones and 63-year-old Joseph Spadaro.
Shiles is charged with multiple counts of embezzlement as well as insurance fraud, and Spadaro is charged with two counts of embezzlement. Jones is charged with obtaining property by false pretense, insurance fraud and conspiracy.
Police say between March 2009 and December 2010, Shiles and Spadaro stole funds from Saturn of Greenville.
They say Jones obtained insurance benefits from the dealership by passing himself off as an employee. Police report Shiles is accused of adding Jones to the company’s medical insurance policy, which cost the business $10,650 in unauthorized premiums.
Police say Jones improperly submitted $1,074.00 worth of medical claims during the life of the policy.
Police say the missing money and insurance fraud were discovered by the dealership's parent company while reconciling the business accounts after the dealership closed. They also report an audit found the business lost just over $19,000.
In a news release, Greenville police stated additional former employees may have been involved and additional arrests are possible.
