IRVING, Texas – East Carolina junior Sarah Christian has been named the Conference USA Pitcher-of-the-Week for her performances against UAB last weekend. For Christian, it is the first C-USA weekly honor of her career, and the first by an ECU hurler since Toni Paisley during the 2011 season.
Christian (10-1) earned two complete-game wins, leading East Carolina to a series victory over UAB in the first weekend of conference play. The Greenville, N.C., native posted a 0.95 ERA in 14.2 innings, holding the Blazers to just two runs on eight hits and a .160 team batting average.
Christian has won each of her last eight starts and nine straight decisions, tossing seven complete games while posting a 1.15 ERA in 55 innings pitched. She has allowed just 34 hits and 10 total runs (nine earned) during that span, while surrendering just seven extra-base hits and possessing a .173 batting average against.
After Saturday’s 2-1 win and split of the doubleheader with the Blazers, Christian allowed just two hits and a pair of walks while striking out three in the Pirates’ 7-1 series-clinching victory. One of just two pitchers in the league with double-digit wins, the decision was also the 44th of her career and overtook Brently Bridgeforth (2003-06) for the eighth most in program history, while lowering her ERA to 1.85 on the season.
