ECU's Brady Medals At Pirate Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Senior Eric Brady shot par-71 to claim individual medalist honors and the East Carolina men's golf team finished third in the final team standings at the Pirate Intercollegiate Tuesday on the Brook Valley Course at Greenville Country Club.

The medalist honor was the first of Brady's career and fifth top-10 career finish. His previous best finish came last year at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate where he placed fourth.

"It's great to get my first win, especially here at ECU," Brady said. "The course played good. We had perfect weather and the greens were perfect which allowed me to make a lot of putts. That's one thing you have to do in order to compete and shoot a good score."

Brady started the day five shots back of Sydney Chung of Lipscomb at 139, but turned in the lowest round of the day to lead the Pirates on the par-71, 6,655 yard course. His final round coupled with Chung's 80 on the final day put Brady atop the individual leader board with a three round total of 2-over 215.

Four additional players surpassed Chung with Charlotte's Dan Hendry and Navy's Devin Terry tying for runner-up at 4-over 217.

"I'm really proud of him and pleased for him," ECU Head Coach Press McPhaul said. "He's worked really hard. I know how much he's wanted to win and how he's forged through with faith that if he keeps working good things are ahead. To see him get the payoff is really gratifying."

Standing at 2-over for the round through five holes, Brady made three consecutive birdies to get on 1-under before paring the next four holes. Bogeys on 13 and 16 pushed him back to 1-over before he shot a four on the par-5 17 to get to par. He ended the day with a par on 18.

The Pirates' shot 305 Tuesday to finish in third behind team champion Presbyterian and runner-up Towson. PC carded a 54-hole tally of 33-over 885, which was three strokes better than the Tigers' 888 and nine ahead of ECU's 894. The Pirates' B team finished in sixth-place, 28 strokes behind it's A team counterparts.

Freshman Clay Brown, sophomores Al Dickens and Jacob Hicks each turned in their second top-20 finishes of the season. Brown fired a 4-over 75 in the final round to finish tied for 15th at 11-over 224. Dickens and Hicks tied for 18th at 12-over 225. Sophomore Stephen Lavenets missed the top 20 by two shots, carding a final round 74 to finish at 15-over 228, while senior Ryan Eibner fell three strokes short of the top 20 after firing a 77 Tuesday for a 54-hole score of 16-over 229.

ECU returns to competition Feb. 3, 2014 at the Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
