ECU Soccer Ranked No. 10 In Central Region

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Following its second-best start in Conference USA history the East Carolina soccer team is ranked No. 10 in the Central Region, according to a release Monday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NCSAA). The Pirates are one of five teams from C-USA to be ranked in the Central Regional.

In its first four games in conference play, East Carolina (7-5, 3-1 C-USA) has recorded threeshutouts and currently sits in a tie for second place with Rice in the league standings. The Pirates are coming off a 1-1 week after dropping a tough 2-0match at No. 25 Memphis before picking up its fifth clean sheet of the season at UAB, 1-0.

Senior Chrissy Gratz netted her third goal of the season (second game-winner) on an assist by fellow classmate Rachel Wechsler against the Blazers. Junior Christiane Cordero, who earned C-USA Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors back on Sept. 24, posted her 12th career shutout, 27th career win and lowered her season goals against average to 1.25.

In the Central Region, UCF is the top-ranked team followed by Big-12 members Baylor, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Kansas and Texas Tech. Memphis checks in at No. 7, while fellow C-USA members Colorado College (eighth) and Rice (tied for 10th) are also represented. Stephen F. Austin rounds out the list at No. 9.

ECU will continue its four-game road trip next weekend heading to the Lone Star State to square off against Houston (Oct. 5 at 8 p.m./ET) and Rice (Oct. 7 at 2 p.m./ET).
