ECU Finishing Tyler Hall For Freshmen

With classes starting in just three weeks at East Carolina University, the school is putting the final touches on a newly renovated dorm that will be home to many freshman this fall since they are now required to live on campus their first year.

To make room for the new students, the Tyler building underwent renovations back in January and Wednesday we got a sneak peek on how preparations are going.

Tyler can house 500 students, but with thousands of new students coming in, many freshman will be placed in other on-campus facilities.

ECU campus housing director Aaron Lucier says they are right on track with getting everything ready for the fall semester and all housing facilities will be ready for students in time for classes. Lucier says, "In the past, about 84 or 85 percent of the freshmen class lived with us already and we decided that those students are generally more successful that first year, so we thought it would be more beneficial and the university made the decision to bring the freshmen all on campus."

Lucier says the requirement to live on campus does not apply to transfer students.

Lucier says they're still waiting on the exact final number of new students for the fall semester, but as of right now they are expecting more than 4,000 freshman. Lucier says they do have room for all of them.
