East Carolina University is celebrating Founders Day by honoring its best and brightest.
An awards ceremony scheduled for Wednesday will honor Dr. Samuel F. Sears, director of ECU's doctoral program in health psychology, with the 2013 O. Max Gardner Award, the highest faculty honor bestowed by the University of North Carolina.
ECU biology professor Dr. John Stiller is set to receive the 2012-13 UNC Board of Governors Awards for Excellence in Teaching.
Several other awards will be handed out at the 9 a.m. ceremony in Hendrix Theatre on campus.
At 1 p.m., a ribbon cutting ceremony will mark the new location of the ffice for Faculty Excellence, the Quality Enhancement Plan, the University Writing Center and the University Writing Program. The location is now on the first floor of Joyner Library. Additionally, a conference room in honor of Dorothy House Clayton will be dedicated as well.
