District 9 House Candidates Face Each Other In Forum

The two candidates in the race for the District Nine House Seat in Pitt County faced each other in a forum Tuesday sponsored by the Greenville/Pitt County Chamber of Commerce.

Democrat Marian McClawhorn is running for reelection. She faces Republican challenger Brian Brown.

Both candidates were asked questions about education and the economy in North Carolina, in particular, how they would improve jobs. McClawhorn said, "I think that we would want to make the economy in Pitt County better and to have more jobs for people who want to get a job."

Brown responded saying, "You have 200 people, 200 jobs that are open right now. And they are open because those employers can't find the skilled workforce to be able to fill those positions. It's two fold, to be able to get the government out of the way, let us prosper and grow and educate our workforce to be able to do the jobs that are necessary to be done."

Both candidates argued why they are the best choice for this position. Mclawhorn says her 14-years of experience and understanding of the job are deserving of your vote. Brown said his experience as a businessman and a family man make him more in tuned to the state's current concerns.

Nearly 100 people attended today's debate.
