Pitt County Office Building Remains Closed

A building that house county offices, including environmental health, remains closed in Pitt County as officials try to determine the source of an odor that some workers were complaining about.

This past Sunday work on putting new insulation in the Development Service Building on West Fifth Street was completed. County public information officer Kiara Jones says employees then began complaining Monday about the problem.

Jones says OSHA determined the problem was not because of mold in the building.

An outside company is now testing to determine if something hazardous could be causing the odor.

The building has been closed since Thursday. Jones says the earliest results would be available would be Monday.

The building also houses the planning, permitting, veterans services, engineering departments.

For now, those departments have been moved into the PATS Building, which is behind the main county office building.
