Officials at the largest hospital in eastern Carolina opened the new children's emergency department Monday morning.
The new children's emergency department at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville has a separate entry from the general E.R., but they share a common ambulance drop-off area and are connected inside.
The children's emergency department is the only one of its kind in Eastern Carolina, approximately 12,800 square feet with 16 exam/treatment rooms. Two of these rooms are fully functional resuscitation rooms.
Even the waiting rooms are geared for children, with several video game monitors and an interactive koi pond in the lobby.
This is different from the new children's hospital which is being constructed on Stantonsburg Road.
