A man described as a career criminal for defrauding people and businesses out of money is headed to prison.
The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says 44-year-old Anthony Cannon of Greenville has been sentenced to between five and a half and seven years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of obtaining property by false pretense and one count of being a habitual felon.
Investigators say Cannon wrote checks to businesses for merchandise from accounts that had been closed years. He would also meet with individuals needing construction work at their home.
Cannon collected deposits for the jobs, but never returned to complete the work.
