Report Lists No Charges Against Elderly Driver Who Ended Up In Greenville Business

An accident report shows no charges have been filed against an elderly woman after her car ended up inside a Greenville business last week.

An employee at the Ulta Beauty store on Evans Street was pinned between counters when Betty Akin's vehicle came into the building.

A police report, which was made public Monday afternoon, does not list any charges against the 75-year-old woman.

The accident report says the Winterville woman was pulling into a handicapped parking space when she accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake.

It lists damage to the store at $35,000.

The store employee was sent to the hospital to be checked out.

An employee of a Greenville cosmetic business was pinned today after a vehicle ended up inside the store.

It happened around 1:00 p.m. at the Ulta Beauty store which is at the intersection of Greenville Boulevard and Evans Street.

Greenville police say an elderly woman was trying to pull into a handicapped spot in front of the business when she hit the gas pedal, instead of the brake.

Her vehicle jumped the parking block and flattened the handicapped sign, before hitting the building.

The vehicle ended up about a third of the way inside the store. Police say a clerk was stuck between two counters and she was transported to Vidant Medical Center as a precaution.

The elderly driver was not injured.
