Citizens Bethel in Pitt County aren't backing down in attempts to save their medical clinic.
The Bethel Clinic, operated by the ECU Brody School of Medicine is expected to close down on September first because of dwindling patients and a $100,000 deficit from last fiscal year.
Thursday night residents gathered for a prayer vigil. Mayor pro-tem Gloristine Brown says they're taking other steps as well. "We have put petitions out all over town and there have been petitions taken to other communities for support but for right now that's where we're standing."
People in Bethel would have to travel to the family medicine center in Greenville if the clinic closes.
