The mother of a 14 year old, charged in three murders at a Pitt County convenience store, is now under arrest herself.
Pitt County deputies arrested Valerie Blount Thursday morning on a charge of contributing to delinquency of a minor. The Greene County woman was arrested by Sheriff Neil Elks Thursday morning at her Snow Hill home.
Elks says they charged the mother because she did not know the whereabouts of her 14 year old son on the night of the murders.
Captain Paula Dance says when they interviewed Blount she told investigators that the last time she saw her teenage son was two weeks before that. Dance says this is not just about the events of April 1st, but about a "lifetime of negligence".
Blount is the sixth person to be arrested in connection with the April 1st deaths of 26-year-old Nabil Almoganahi, 24-year-old David Alawi, and 16-year-old Sam Almoganahi at their family owned store, the Hustle Mart.
Antwan Anthony of Bethel, Xavier Shamble of Farmville and Willie Whitehead of Pinetops were indicted Monday on three counts of first degree murder, kidnapping and robbery. The case against the woman's juvenile son is being handled by the juvenile court system because of his age.
On Tuesday, Zipporah Purvis of Farmville was charged with being an accessory after the fact in the case.
Thursday afternoon, Blount posted bond and was released from jail.
