Police Believe Murders Are Drug Related

Police have now identified two people found dead Friday in a home in Greenville and believe their deaths are drug related.

Shakeyta Woolard, 29, of Greenville and Keri Kenlaw, 29, of Washington were both killed in the home on Academy Drive. Police say the two were in a long-term relationship and that Kenlaw also lived at the Academy Drive home.

Police say multiple gunshots were fired inside the home and it was thoroughly ransacked. Detectives say at this point they do believe the deaths to be drug related and that the house was specifically targeted for a robbery.

There were four children inside the home at the time of the murders.

Interim Chief Joe Bartlett says Kenlaw had a prior criminal record for marijuana, while Woolard had other non-drug related convictions.

As far as suspects, Bartlett says multiple people were involved but they have no description of the killers.

Previous Story:

Police say two people were found dead inside a Greenville home this afternoon and they're now calling it a homicide.

Police units first responded around 2:15 p.m. to 314 Academy Drive for a shooting call.

Multiple police units, an ambulance and Pitt County District Attorney Clark Everett arrived at the crime scene as well.

Captain Rob Williams says one male and one female are dead from what Williams says are obviously not natural causes. Police are not yet saying what, if any, the relationship was between the two.

Williams says detectives and other officers are now canvassing the neighborhood.

Tax records show the house is owned by R&L Investment Homes of Washington.

I send my condolances to the family and friends. I used to read this website or watch the news everyday but I don't any longer. So many deaths by gun or cars that it's so depressing it actually makes me cry. What has happened to the world? It is changing at the speed of sound. Just one day I'd like to see all good things but I know that will never happen.
