The driver of a mini van has been charged in that accident Tuesday on Old Tar Road in Winterville.
Winterville police say James Petteway of Greenville crossed the center line and struck the oncoming SUV head-on. Four people were hurt in the 10:30 a.m. crash, one of those airlifted to Vidant Medical Center.
The other driver, Christopher Moore of Winterville, told police the last thing he remembers was passing the speed sign at Cedar Ridge, after adjusting his radio.
They said Moore's SUV traveled so far from the impact because it lost its brakes and front tire. The mini van overturned and two of its passengers had to be freed by firefighters.
Winterville Police are investigating a serious car accident that happened at the Greenville/Winterville city limits.
