Fire investigators say a person smoking in bed caused a fire in a townhouse in Greenville Tuesday morning.
Greenville Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Shannon Terry says the call came in at 6:41 a.m. for a fire on Cedar Court, which is near Eastern Elementary School. Crews arrived on scene at 6:48 a.m.
Investigators say they don't know the exact circumstances, but do know a cigarette came in contact with bedding material.
The fire was contained to the bed area, while there was minor smoke and water damage to the apartment.
There were no injuries, but the damage was serious enough that the woman can no longer live there. The Red Cross is assisting her.
