State troopers say a Hertford County man was killed in yesterday's accident where a pickup truck hit a vacant home in Fountain.
The man killed has been identified as 53-year-old Ricky Farmer of Winton.
Troopers believe the man may have had a heart attack or stroke before the pickup truck he was driving struck the concrete block house early Tuesday morning.
The owner of the vehicle told troopers he did know know Farmer and believes his truck was stolen from a lot in Bertie County. He told troopers the pickup was parked with the keys inside.
An autopsy on Farmer's body has not yet been completed.
State troopers say a man who was killed after a pickup truck struck a house this morning did not have permission to drive the vehicle.
The Highway Patrol says the pickup ran off of Highway 258 in Fountain and traveled nearly 500 feet before smashing into the house on Lynch St.. The Highway Patrol says it's possible the driver had some type of medical problem which may have caused the accident.
Officials say the driver was not the owner of the vehicle, and did not have permission to drive it. But, they have not yet released his name.
The Highway Patrol says they were called to the wreck at 7:30 a.m. However, troopers say the accident may have happened before sunrise without anyone noticing. The people who used to live in that house have since moved away, according to a relative.
