Greenville Standoff Ends With Man Hospitalized

A man was taken to the hospital Sunday morning after a two hour standoff with police at his Greenville apartment.

Around 5:30 a.m. Greenville Police responded to 500 Verdant Drive to reports of an intoxicated person who was using a large stick to damage cars in the parking lot and that he also attempted to break into an apartment.

Officers located and identified the suspect as 21-year-old Christian Lindsay of Kernersville.

Police say Lindsay had damaged at least 2 cars and one other apartment. They say he fled his apartment when officers arrived.

Once inside the upstairs apartment police say Lindsay broke out several windows, cutting himself in the process.

Officers attempted to negotiate with Lindsay to get him to surrender. After a two hour standoff Lindsay came out of the apartment but would not submit to police commands. Officers then used a taser to take Lindsay into custody.

Lindsay was transported to Vidant Medical Center for involuntary mental commitment.

Police say criminal charges against Lindsay for Damage to Property may be forthcoming. The case remains under investigation.

Police say Lindsay has prior arrests for assault and for misuse of 911 system. They say he is known to have prior contact with local law enforcement.
