Ayden had a damp kickoff for it's 38th annual Collard Festival Thursday. Rides and vendors were scheduled to open at 6pm followed up with 8pm live music by Hip Pocket, but lightning forced rides to shut down. Organizers say all-you-can-ride $12 wristband night is postponed until Friday.
This once small-town parade and dance has evolved into a statewide anticipated festival bringing 10-15 thousand visitors to Pitt County through Sunday.
The Collard Festival provides carnival rides, live music, golf, cornhole, cooking, and eating tournaments, dance performances, BMX shows, Arts & Crafts, and local business vendors. The 4-day festival ends Sunday September 9th with a 5k Road Race and 1mile run/ walk, which helps raise funds for the event.
