NEW INFO: Washington Man Charged With Trying To Kill Ayden Police Officer

A man who authorities say tried to kill an Ayden police officer with a stolen car on Saturday remains behind bars.

Winterville police say they tried to stop the vehicle which was traveling at a high rate of speed down Highway 11 toward Ayden. Once inside the Ayden town limits, Ayden police and deputies joined in the chase.

Police say Rashad Pridgen of Washington ran the vehicle head on into Sgt. J.A. Butler's patrol car. The officer received minor injuries in the crash that deployed the cruiser's air bags, broke his computer as well as the passenger window.

Pridgen ran after the accident but was caught after a short foot chase, according to police.

He is charged with attempted first degree murder, reckless driving to endanger, felony flee/elude arrest, driving while license revoked, possession of stolen motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods, resisting public officer, possession of paraphernalia, speeding, fail to stop for stop light, and fail to stop for stop sign.

Pridgen is being held on a $500,000 bond.

A man in the east is facing an attempted murder charge among a slew of other charges.

Pitt County Detention Center officials say that 24-year-old Rashad Pridgen was brought in by Winterville Police on Saturday. We’re told that he’s facing a felony first degree attempted murder charge after crashing into an Ayden Police Officer's vehicle following an incident Saturday morning.

Officials say that on Sunday, Pridgen was also charged by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office for other crimes that include stealing a car, breaking and entering motor vehicles, and a larceny charge.

We’re working to gather more information on what led to the first degree murder charge.

Pridgen is being held on a $500,000 secured bond
