FIRST ON WITN: Armed Robbery At Greenville Gas Station

Greenville police are investigating yet another armed robbery of a business, the third in less than a week.

The Kangaroo convenience store on Charles Boulevard was held up around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers said a nearly 6-foot-tall black man with a red bandana over his face and glove-covered hands flashed a silver revolver with a long barrel, took cash from the store register, and took off on foot.

Reports show the gunman got away with $30 in cash, $50 worth of Newport cigarettes, and a wallet with a debit card inside.

Minutes after, officers with canine units and others with guns drawn were searching the surrounding area on foot. Other Greenville police officers were parked at the ends of residential streets and near main intersections, combing the surrounding area for the gunman.

Police said despite the effort to track the robber, they could not find him.

Wednesday afternoon police released surveillance pictures of the robber. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, dark gray pants, and black and gray tennis shoes.

The same gas station was the target of an armed robbery around the same time, 3 a.m., on September 25th.

A clerk who was working inside the business Wednesday morning said he was also there for the September robbery. That clerk also told WITN he believes Wednesday morning's robber is the same man from the previous crime.

Police are also investigating Friday's robbery of the Boganles' on South Memorial Drive and Sunday's stickup of CiCi's Pizza on Greenville Boulevard.

No arrests have been made in any of those armed robberies.

Previous Story

Greenville police were actively searching for an armed robber early Wednesday.

Police tell WITN's Carly Swain that the Kangaroo at 2600 S. Charles Blvd. was held up just after 3 a.m. The gas station is at the intersection of Charles and Oakmont Dr., next to Fitness Connection.

An officer on scene said no injuries were reported in the hold up, but police are still looking for the gunman.

Police armed with guns and at least one K-9 were searching the area around the store, which was also robbed at gunpoint on September 25 of this year. No arrests were reported in that crime.

The store clerk working during the Wednesday morning armed robbery says he was also on duty during the September 25th robbery.

Investigators said they are not releasing a suspect description at this time and more details may be available later in the day.

Carly Swain will report live from the crime scene in Greenville this morning on WITN News at Sunrise with updates on the search and investigation.
