FIRST ON WITN: DH Conley Soccer Coaches Fired Amid Hazing Allegations

Pitt County Schools says two soccer coaches have been fired amid allegations of hazing on a school activity bus.

Dr. Pokie Noland confirms that Travis Reed, the varsity soccer coach, was removed Wednesday, while Javier Yanez, who was a volunteer coach, was fired today.

Reed, a non-faculty coach, has been with the school system since February 2007. The school system says Reed also did some coaching at Hope Middle School. Yanez began volunteering at Conley at the start of this season.

The soccer team is scheduled to play at home tonight against South Central. Noland says the game will go on and a staff member will coach the team until a new coach is found.

Investigators say some varsity soccer players are accused of assaulting at least one teammate Tuesday. It allegedly happened as the team was returning from a game in Jacksonville.

Pitt County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Christy Wallace says they looked into the allegations and determined they took place in Lenoir County. She says any victim, or their parent would have to ask the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office to investigate.
