GREENVILLE, N.C. – In conjunction with the American Athletic Conference, the East Carolina women’s basketball team announced its conference opponents for the 2014-15 season Thursday afternoon.
With the addition of ECU, Tulane and Tulsa in 2014, the conference’s basketball membership will increase to 11.
The Pirates will play an 18-game AAC schedule in their first season in the league, which features home-and-home tilts against Cincinnati, Connecticut, Houston, Memphis, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa and USF. The schedule also includes a home game versus UCF and a road matchup at Temple. In the current model, East Carolina will play the same pairings in 2015-16, but will switch sites with single game opponents.
ECU has never faced UConn or Temple in program history, and the Huskies will be the first-ever reigning national champion to visit Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. East Carolina has faced each of its eight conference counterparts multiple times in previous years.
The AAC also announced the 2015 women’s basketball tournament will be played March 6-9 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The format comprises three first-round games (Friday, March 6), followed by four quarterfinal games (Saturday, March 7); two semifinals (Sunday, March 8) and the championship game (Monday, March 9).
Head coach Heather Macy recently finished her fourth season after leading the Pirates to their second-straight 22-win season, both of which were complemented by WNIT appearances.
The complete 2014-15 American Athletic Conference schedule with specific dates and times will be announced in August.
