PGV Sets Passenger Record For June

Despite an economic slowdown, a record number of people used the Pitt-Greenville Airport in June.

Airport Executive Director Jerry Vickers says 11,188 passengers used US Airways Express, a record number for any June. Vickers says it shows a 7.5% increase from the previous year.

The airport says flights at the airport averaged 80% full, with US Airways adding additional flights on the weekends.

So far this year 59,106 people have used the airport, a 1.1% increase over 2009.

Steven, a couple other hub destinations were in the works before the general economy tanked a couple years ago.I expect they will be revived when the airlines get their economic nerves under control.Atlanta was one & I think Philly the other. One flight per day to start.

I think that PGV could be a much better airport if it had additional airlines/destinations. Why focus just on just on USAir? Why not something to the northeast or to Atlanta? Why can New Bern and Jacksonville have these and not Greenville?

I always fly out of Greenville. I hate the drive to Raleigh.

Regardless the negatives stated here PGV is a great place to catch a plane with minimal hassle.50 minutes to Charlotte and you have access to the world.Beats the heck out of driving to RDU.

Simply put, I haven't flown in years bacause the airlines keep nickel and diming's the principle of the matter. It may take me a bit longer to drive, but by golly - I'm done with the airlines. I agree with Dave @ 2:47 - seems like a HUGE waste there.

If you think that is a waste, look into the salary and pension $ that is being paid out to past and current directors!!!

I am a big fan of airplanes and love the aviation industry but the current expansion of PGV is a HUGE waste of money. I am a VERY frequent visitor to PGV and even the current terminal (rebuilt in 1999) is nearly EMPTY 90-95% of the time. I walked through this past Saturday and there was ONE other person in the entire terminal. ONE!!! And he was an employee. As near as I can tell they are going to triple/quadruple the size of the current airport. It is nowhere near capacity now or for the forseeable future.
