Pitt County Church Damaged By Runaway Car

A Pitt County church was damaged after an elderly driver says her car brakes went out.

Some corner bricks at the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church were damaged, along with cracks on the front porch because of the crash. The wreck happened around 11:00 a.m. at the intersection of Staton Mill Road and NC 30 in Pitt County.

Four people in the car received minor injuries and were transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

The Highway Patrol cited 71-year-old Eleanor Ampley with defective equipment and driving left of center. No one was in the church at the time of the crash.

My home has been hit by out of control vehicles three times now. The last time it was hit was by a fifty something female apparently under the influence of prescription drugs of some sort- seriously impaired. Previously it was hit two times as the local bars closed at night. Running into a structure in broad daylight is pretty bad. Police see it all the time.

Of course she didn't leave the house with no brakes, but if the brakes failed due to lack of maintenance then she most certainly should be charged for faulty equipment.

Why would they charge this lady with faulty equipment? I am pretty sure she would NOT have gotten in her car to drive it if she had a CLUE that her brakes were not going to work!! Come on Pitt Co.
