It does not matter if you beat a child or not some of them still are going to what they want to do. You said your child is bullheaded yet have not had a legal problem. My child is bullheaded with no legal problems but I still don't say what he is not going to do. Some people have never been in trouble and have committed crime when they have gotten older. So your child is still your child at 50 years old when he committs a crime.

sounds like a few tweaks to your plan and maybe you will have a uneventful party. you had a good plan; maybe try charging a couple bucks at the door and hire a security gaurd for the evening. and also maybe he/she could check people at the door for alcohol and drug or weapons. make it a criteria to enter the party and maybe change locations to a church. but i wouldnt give up on trying to do something construtive because a a couple bad apples. see what mistakes were made and apply what you have learned; just like sports; go back and do something different and ge a better result; sorry it went sour.

thank you opencarry for that response...i do appreciate that fact. its just a shame that when you're not looking for them, they seem to pop up, but when you may need them, they are nowhere to be found, especially when you need them for people's safety and concern. when you try to prevent and things happen, people are quick to point fingers @, excuse me, the blacks for doing things and saying "thug this and thug that". i don't bother w/those type of people, but they are everywhere and you can't control everyone. well, the next shooting won't happen @ one of our parties b/c there will be nomore...it is sad that it happened like i said b/f. unfortunately i am blamed for my people having a going away party that was spoiled by an unwanted situation.

You NRA members need to teach these thugs how to use and respect their guns.

to allen: for your wonderful info, it was a going away party for a popular person to many young people and it was open invitation. excuse us, if we didn't limit it to just uppity people that don't party. you don't invite just certain people to a club, do you? sometimes there are large crowds that might need to be handled afterwards, but you're not sure. we didn't think anything was going to happen b/c it never does and excuse me, this isn't the first time we've had a party, but it is the first time something like this happened. don't start to down talk to me just b/c you needed to say something. things do happen and unfortunately we couldn't control this situation. it wasn't that WE were going to feel safer, but so there would be some crowd control. and i am going to blame them for trying to charge when it wasn't sure that they were going to be there...winterville wouldn't have done that, but i guess we'll need to stay out there..thank you for your concern!!

shontay, I will remind you that that the US Supreme Court has ruled in over a dozen cases (including Warren v. DC) that the police have NO DUTY or legal obligation to provide safety or security for individuals. The police are NOT your personal body guards or security guards. If you don't want thugs and punks causing trouble at your personal parties, DON'T INVITE THEM...

Why do you feel the need to come down on Shontay for this? It seems to me that they prepared, spoke ahead of time with police about any possible situations, reserved the police, and still had an issue with their lack of presense. I get what your point was, but when they go that far to make things safe, when there may be an unsafe situation, and then feel very remorseful for the situation, while sounding extremely mature about it up here; why then do you need to put in your two cents. Seems that the people hosting the party tried to keep things appropriate, and just failed at it. I don't think she blamed the police, just pointed out a flaw in the deal. Lay off her.

Shontay, Just what kind of party are you having and what type of people are you inviting, that you feel you have to have a police presence? And why is it law enforcements fault that your guest want to fight and shoot each other? In over thirty years I can not once remember going to a party that we had to have to police around just to be safe. And do you realize that there is an entire city of over 80,000 people that a limited number of police officers are serving. They can not be everywhere all the time. Sounds to me like people should start taking responsibility for there own actions instead of blaming someone else.

it was so sad...the party was very nice, but the problem was gville police was nowhere to be found when the party was over. my family member actually threw the party and everything was good, but when the people saw NO police, they decided to act stupid! GPD informed my family member that they will charge her $30 per hour just to reserve them, but there was nothing definite that they will show up. mind you @ about 11pm, they were just sitting behind parkers bbq doing nothing, but @ 12 it took them so long to get back over there once they were called. i know for a fact that they were called from @ least 5 or more different people, and it seemed like eternity for them to get there. i actually saw 2 guys getting beat up. it really did hurt my heart that people or shall i say kids, can't get together and enjoy themselves w/out starting trouble. i hope they do catch the people that were doing the shooting b/c it caused issues w/in alot of people...very traumatizing!!!
