A Pitt County grand jury has indicted a mother for the death of her son.
Sandy Etheridge was indicted for first degree murder in the death of Dakota Etheridge. The infant died last Monday after being taken off life support at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Etheridge was served with the murder indictment Tuesday which is the woman's 28th birthday.
The baby was just 10 weeks old when he was hospitalized back in March. Deputies say his mother shook Dakota so violently that he suffered brain injuries.
At the time Etheridge was charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury. Authorities say Etheridge has four other children that have been taken away by the Department of Social Services.
She remains in jail with no bond.
