Greenville's New City Clerk Coming From Kinston

Kinston's loss is Greenville's gain as the new city clerk doesn't have very far to move.

Carol Barwick will begin June 1st as Greenville city clerk. Since 2001 Barwick has been city clerk in Kinston. Before that she worked for nearly 22 years in Kinston's public works department.

"We're extremely excited to be getting a person with this kind of experience, having worked as a clerk and also in another department within the City of Kinston" said Mayor Pat Dunn.

Barwick replaces Wanda Elks who recently retired.

George you should read the story again...It said "Carol Barwick will begin June 1st as Greenville city clerk. Since 2001 Barwick has been city clerk in Kinston. Before that she worked for nearly 22 years in Kinston's public works department." It says that since 2001 she has been clerk (9 years); it also says "before that" she worked 22 years.....9 22 = 31 years. She is already retirement eligible.

You can look at it from two perspectives.. first, Wanda Elks is originally from Kinston and perhaps the City thinks if it worked well first time then it might work well this time... AND then there is the fact that the poor lady is coming from eastern North Carolina (cheap labor), which means they won't have to pay her much to take the job nor will they have to spend a fortune to train her.... just sayin'

Was this really a good move? She has 22 years experience which means she is eligible for full retirement in 8 years. By the time she really gets good at her job she will most likely retire.
