South Memorial Drive Back Open After Business Fire

A fire that closed down a busy Greenville street Friday afternoon is out and South Memorial Drive is back open.

Greenville firefighters were called to a building at South Memorial Drive & Ione Street around 3:00 p.m.

Battalion Chief Doug Branch tells WITN the fire is out, though they continue to work on a few hot spots. Branch says the building is owned by Fulcher Tire, but was not part of the building that burned last year.

South Memorial Drive, just south of Dickinson Avenue was shut down because of the blaze.

Branch says tires in back of the building caught fire and it spread to part of the roof. A crew was working on the roof and called 911when they saw the flames. The Trophy Case, which is in the same building, received smoke damage, while next door Blue Heron Insurance had smoke damage as well.

No one was injured in the fire and the road remained closed as of 5:30 p.m.

anonomous at PCMH, instead of staring out the window why don't you do your job. Start cleaning patients that need cleaning instead of letting them lay in their own filth for a couple of hours because it's shift change time.

Take a look at that area.It Is Run down,Not Maintained. This Area around Ione Street looks just like north of The river.Contains Fulcher Tire Burned Out Building."Face It Folks".Whole area needs to be torn down.Looks Worse than the Getto.

"Hmmmm", I agree with you. It seems very odd that an annex of Fulcher Tire would now catch fire. Maybe it was spontaneous combustion, but I seriously doubt it.

I was on the site earlier, and before I had left all south-bound lanes on Memorial had been opened and one north-bound lane was open.
