Accident Snarls U.S. 264 Traffic

An accident shut down part of Highway 264 in Pitt County for a time Monday morning.

Both eastbound lanes were closed at mile marker 76, that's on the MLK bypass, between the Highway 43 and Highway 33 exits. Authorities have since opened both lanes to traffic.

State troopers say a van ran into the back of an SUV which was towing a trailer. The back of the SUV was heavily damaged and debris from the trailer was scattered over the highway.

The Highway Patrol says a woman and a young child in the SUV were not seriously hurt, nor was the driver of the van.

Thank you ECU for the "pat on the back" we take pride in our efforts to help others when we are called to duty. To Phil it involved a Cooke Communications van not a private individual.
