Trooper Assault Suspect Due In Court

A man who authorities say assaulted a female state trooper on Thanksgiving Day is due in court Monday.

The Highway Patrol says Robert Stocks got into a fist fight with Trooper Amanda Sings as she was trying to arrest him Thanksgiving afternoon in Pitt County.

Stocks remains in jail on $200,500 bond for assault on a law enforcement officer, assault with intent to inflict injuries, resisting arrest and driving while impaired.

The assault happened on Joe Stocks Road, which is south of Greenville off Highway 43.

Sgt. Gary Weaver says Trooper Amanda Signs was trying to arrest Stocks when both were injured. He said it was a fist fight and no weapons were used.
