Controlled Burn Gets Out of Control In Pitt County

It was a warm spring like day Tuesday, and even with all the rain lately, most of the grass and vegetation has not greened yet leaving it dry and a potential fire danger.

A typical controlled burn got out of control outside of Greenville when wind hit the pile sending one and a half acres of grass up in flames.

Fire crews from Falkland and Bell Arthur were dispatched to the scene.

Assistant Fire Chief Steve Nichols from the Falkland Fire Department says that the proper procedure before starting a fire is to consult the forestry service.

Several firefighters from the two departments were needed to put out the blaze. The fire did not cause any property damage.

I think the county or fire fighter should ban all fires outside the county residences area.. People are so careless and in such a hurry to do NOTHING!!
